I have been wanting to include Home Remedies in my blog for quite some time. However, it didn’t work so far. From my childhood, my parents, especially my dad, would discourage us from going to doctors or take allopathic medicines for small issues. Fever, cold, toothache, stomach pain etc etc have been my companions for a long time 😀 And it continues to be so. For this reason, my dad still calls me a ‘weakling’ 😛 He keeps saying that we should build our immunity and if our immune system is strong enough, we won’t be struck by these common nuisances every now and then!!!
Well, I agree to all that. But what does a person do, if their immunity is weak!!! I know, I know..Eat healthy and nutritious food. Having said that, am still working on my system to get strong 😀
This week has been really bad thus far 😦 I am down with cold and slight fever! Some of the home remedies are the best solution during such times. There are many home remedies for curing cold. Some of them are listed below:
1. Gargle with hot water(mixed with salt). This helps in clearing up your throat and removing the phlegm.
2. Steaming is another extremely helpful way of clearing up your nostrils.
3. Drink a glass of milk by adding quarter tsp turmeric in it.
I will add more of the tips later. For today, I used ‘Chukku Kappi’ for a relief. Chukku means dry ginger and Kappi means coffee. So it is basically, a drink/coffee made of some spices, the main ingredient being dry ginger. Below is the recipe for Chukku Kappi.
Note: Cup used for measurement is US measurement cup, 1 cup = 237 ml
Coffee powder – 1 tsp(I used only 1/2 tsp coz I don’t like coffee)
Dry ginger powder/Chukku podi – 1 tsp
Ground Black pepper – 1/2 tsp
Dry holy basil/Dry Tulsi – 1/2 tsp
Jaggery – 1 small cube
Cumin powder – 1/4 tsp
Cloves(optional) – 2 nos
Water – 1.5 cups
1. In a saucepan, put all the ingredients together. Boil it well till the jaggery melts.
2. Filter it and transfer to a glass.
