Coming from Kerala, banana chips is one of the most popular and common snack I have seen in my childhood. I remember, when people used to visit others, it was a common practice to get some snack or fruits for the family they were visiting. You would get lucky if they got you some chocolates or candies by chance 😉 And the snacks as far as I can recollect would always be either Banana chips, Plum cake or Tapioca chips.
And over dosage of anything makes you dislike it 🙂 I remember vaguely that my mom used to give us a spiced up version of banana chips at times. I am sure even she has forgotten about it by now. Thanks to the change in practice. People now bring better things when they visit 😉
Having said that, banana chips is still something that a Malayali cannot disassociate with. So if you want to try a variation of it, try this version. I am sure you will like the change in the flavor like DD did. His first reaction when he saw this snack was, “What have you done to this chips?” 😉 But of course, later he liked it and finished the entire thing sparing me just 2 spoonfuls 😛
Banana chips – 1 cup
Onion(chopped) – 1/2 cup
Coriander leaves – 2 strands
Green chillies – 1 or 2 nos
Chaat masala – 1/2 tsp
Salt – to taste
1. Crush the banana chips using mortar and pestle.
2. Mix chopped onion, chopped green chillies, chopped coriader leaves, salt and chaat masala well.
3. Mix it well with the crushed banana chips just before serving. Do not keep it for long before serving. Else the chips would loose its crunchiness.
